Two people are missing and presumed drowned after a canoe carrying three individuals capsized while crossing from Namibia to Zambia near Kazungula Bridge.
According to a preliminary report from NamPol, the incident occurred near Buiketo village. The group was nearing the Zambian side when the canoe overturned.
One occupant, a Zambian male, managed to swim to safety, while the other two—a 16-year-old Namibian female and a Zambian male of unknown age—remain unaccounted for.
Members of the Impalila Police Station, along with the Namibian Navy, responded to the scene. Only the canoe was recovered by eyewitnesses who witnessed the incident.
Search efforts have been hampered by strong winds and large waves, complicating recovery operations.
Community members on both sides of the border have been urged to remain vigilant and report any sightings of the missing individuals. Zambian authorities have also been informed and are assisting in the ongoing search.
