Members of Parliament expressed excitement in the National Assembly following the formal notice to introduce the long-anticipated Consolidated Comprehensive Land Bill by Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Land Reform, Inge Zaamwani.

The proposed legislation aims to consolidate existing laws relating to land reform and management. According to the minister, the bill will provide for the establishment of communal land boards, a communal land development fund, and the demarcation and extension of communal land areas. It also outlines the allocation of communal land rights and the roles of chiefs, traditional authorities, and land committees in this process.

In addition, the bill includes provisions for the continuation of the Land Reform Advisory Commission and the Land Acquisition and Development Fund. It makes provision for the acquisition of commercial agricultural land by the state, including the vesting of preferential rights to purchase such land and the introduction of measures for compulsory acquisition and alienation.

The notice also highlighted a clause that prohibits the acquisition of commercial agricultural land by foreign nationals. The resolutions of the Second National Land Conference inform the bill, according to Zaamwani.
