The Namibian Broadcasting Corporation and the Anti-Corruption Commission have signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding to raise awareness and fight corruption across the country.

The agreement marks the launch of a nationwide anti-corruption media campaign aimed at promoting ethical governance, encouraging public dialogue, and increasing citizen participation. It will make use of NBC’s platforms, including radio, television, digital media, and NBC Plus.

“We recognize that informed citizens are our strongest allies in this fight against corruption. That is why we decided to embark upon a nationwide anti-corruption educational media campaign in collaboration with NBC, leveraging the power and reach of radio to inform and empower our communities,” said Acting ACC Director General, Erna van der Merwe.

NBC Director General, Stanley Similo, said the broadcaster will play an active role in informing the public about integrity and national responsibility.

“And part of what this institution will be telling you through what we will be producing and broadcasting would be to tell you what this will be. So we are going to be part of a community that will be able to process that will teach all of us about integrity when we are dealing with issues. And it will also foster an element of being Namibian in protecting what we have dear to all ourselves… the platforms will be there to be used in such a way that you should be able to get your message across.”

The launch of the campaign aligns with Africa Anti-Corruption Day, observed annually on 11 July. The day, established by the African Union, encourages reflection on progress, challenges, and strategies in the fight against corruption.

“African Anti-Corruption Day… will provide us with an opportunity to reflect on the progress made, challenges encountered, and strategy to be employed to effectively combat corruption, not only in Namibia, but on the African continent as a whole,” said ACC Executive Director, Tylvas Shilongo.

The campaign will run under the theme: Promoting Human Dignity in the Fight Against Corruption.
