The Namibia Film Commission (NFC) is calling on first-time filmmakers and creatives outside the |Khomas Region to apply for its 2025/2026 funding cycle.
The call is open for short films, web shorts, and mini-documentaries, and aims to support innovative projects from emerging Namibian filmmakers.
"Only first-time funding recipients will be supported, while the web series is solely open to applicants who reside outside the |Khomas Region," the Commission said.
The initiative is intended to diversify the narrative landscape, promote regional representation, and give opportunities to filmmakers who have not previously received support from the NFC.
Nicola Muranda, Senior Media Officer at the NFC, said, “Filmmakers in urban centers managed to submit timely convincing concepts which received funding. The film and video fund from Treasury has remained the same over the past years, while production value and demand has increased, which does not allow for enough projects to be funded in a single financial year.”
She encouraged filmmakers to submit original projects with both local and global appeal, and to be strategic with their marketing plans, including clear distribution channels.
“The Commission thus encourages all first-time filmmakers operating outside of the commerce region to take advantage of this opportunity and show off their creative concepts and film skills in telling stories that reflect our rich history and heritage,” she added.
Applicants have 30 days to prepare and consult before submitting. Submissions close on 11 August 2025, and more information is available on the NFC website and social media platforms.
