Keetmanshoop Primary School held its annual sports day in the southern town, with five local primary schools participating.
The sports day forms part of the school's annual fundraising activities.
Learners from five primary schools in Keetmanshoop, including an invitational team from Rosh Pinah, competed in rugby, netball, and football to raise much-needed funds to promote sports and contribute to extracurricular activities at the school.
Speaking to NBC Sport at the event, Johannes Eiman, one of the organizers of the sports day, reiterated that the day aims to promote participation in sports among learners.
"We have to develop these youngsters from a very young age, and tournaments and sports days like these are opportunities where schools can join in and prepare the players for the future. We are just grooming them from a young age by creating this opportunity where they can take part in sports. We believe that sports always bring society together; sports always join people together. People can socialize with one another; we can embrace each other's cultures. There are many things that are happening these days, so we are able to relate and also make relations with others within this setup," Eiman said.
Parents and spectators were in a joyful mood as they cheered on the youngsters, while the school used the opportunity to sell a few items as part of its fundraising activity.
NBC Sport spoke to one parent, and this is what he had to say about the importance of the day:
"It boosts the kids' morale when it comes to attending these small events. It may look small to you, but for your kids, it's a big boost to show the talent that he has on the field. For parents, what do you do on a Saturday morning when you could be attending this thing? For those that don't go to work on Saturdays, to support their children at such events, it is a very good thing. It is supporting the talent that they are having by just showing up," Mario Loaw said.
Organizers of the annual sports day said they are planning more sporting activities for the year.
