Eugene Kudumo of the Ukwangali Traditional Authority has officially been designated as Hompa of the Vakwangali people and succeeded the late Sitentu Mapasi, who died 11 years ago.

The event drew a diverse attendance, including prominent leaders Hompa Sofia Mujembwe of Sambyu, Hompa Alfons Kaundu of Mbunza, and Hompa May Kasamane of the Vakwangali people from Mangondo, Angola, as well as representatives from various traditional authorities nationwide.

The Minister of Urban and Rural Development, James Sankwasa, recently approved the application of Kudumo as Hompa of the Ukwangali Traditional Authority.

As per the Traditional Authorities Act, Sankwasa also attended the ceremony.

He appealed to all traditional leaders to foster peace, welfare, and adherence to customary laws within their communities, while preserving their cultural heritage, language, and traditions.

Minister Sankwasa presented the Constitution of Namibia, the Traditional Authorities Act and the Communal Land Reform Act to the newly designated Hompa.

Hompa Kudumo expressed gratitude and called for unity in his territory, emphasising that he is the chief of all people, including those who oppose his designation.
