A team of 36 young Namibian athletes from disadvantaged backgrounds is urgently seeking financial assistance. Many of the athletes, who are from the Ohangwena region, need funds for accommodation at the upcoming NWU Top 30 Championships in South Africa, which runs from September 19-25, 2025.

The championships are a key qualifier for both the 2026 Youth Olympics in Senegal and the National Youth Games in Luanda, Angola.

The team needs N$74,760 to cover their accommodation costs. Without this support, they face the prospect of sleeping on their bus throughout the week-long tournament.

Several of the athletes have already shown great promise, having recently won medals at the Region 5 Youth Championships. Some are also beneficiaries of the Frank Fredericks Foundation.

"These young athletes have shown incredible potential," said Head Coach Edward Kapewasha. "Without proper accommodation, their health and performance could be compromised."

The coach thanked the Ministry of Sport for providing transport but noted that accommodation funding is still needed.

The athletes themselves, including recent medalists from the Nedbank Citi Dash Marathon, highlighted the importance of this opportunity for their future.

"This is a life-changing chance for us to showcase our talent on an international stage," said athlete Monika Kandjebo.

Fellow athlete Linda Hailulu added, "We are determined to make our country proud, but we need help to get there."

The team is welcoming support from individuals, businesses, and institutions. To contribute or for more information, you can contact Teofelus Moses at 081 234 5300.
