With their focus set on the upcoming Regional Councils and Local Authorities elections, residents of Stampriet Village are clear on what they want from their new leaders.

Residents raised issues that warrant immediate attention from the soon-to-be-elected political leadership of the village.

A major issue raised by residents was the lack of refuse removal trucks that come into the township, with complaints that stagnant waste poses a serious health hazard.

Beverly Beukes said, "After we vote, we want the numerous refuse dumping sites that resemble loitering areas in Stampriet to be removed because our children are playing at these sites and getting sick."

The resident called on the would-be elected leadership to prioritise cleaning of the village and to expedite the fencing off of the village landfill.

Residents also called for the construction of toilets and improvements to the irregular water supply.

Stampriet is situated 50 kilometres east of Mariental, and its affairs are run by a five-member village council.
