The Director General of the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) has commended the staff for a job well done in keeping the nation informed and up to date as the Regional Council and Local Authority Elections unfolded.
"I would just like to give a shout-out to the NBC team in its entirety – everybody who has been on board making sure that Namibians can stay in line with what has been happening, because without them, we wouldn't have been here today. It wouldn't matter what type of technology you are deploying. This is an industry that is still people-centric, so the aspect of the human capital within the business I cannot overemphasise, and for that I just want to really say thank you very much, and that goes to those we brought in, as we had to get people to assist us."
He also extended appreciation to the New Era group, the Namibia Press Agency and the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology.
NBC deployed teams across the country that provided live coverage on television, radio and its digital platforms throughout the election process.
"The logistics are a nightmare, but what has worked for us is the way in which technology moves. You would have seen that we are broadcasting from areas that we usually don't, and the smartphone is amazing. Many of the stories you see also on our platforms covering elections were captured on smartphones, so it's assisting."
