The National Library of Namibia has officially launched the Temba Kids Program, which aims to contribute to building up Namibian children's literature.
With locally created and contextualised materials, the initiative aims to support and complement efforts in promoting early literacy across the country.
Author Hilma Weber, at the National Library of Namibia, said that for the initiative to be successful, it requires partnerships with institutions, government, communities and educators, as they write and translate these books into more local languages to broadly share these stories.
Weber said that every Namibian child should have access to books that enable them to imagine, dream and broaden their minds.
The launch of Temba supports Namibia's literacy vision to introduce new, vibrant literacy materials designed for Namibian children, ensuring that every child deserves the best start for the best future.
