The Office of the Governor of Oshana has donated 22 school uniforms to learners of Engombe Junior Primary School in Uuvudhiya constituency.
Governor Hofni Iipinge handed over the items on Friday.
Iipinge stated that he was touched by the situation of the learners when he visited Uuvudhiya last year.
"It really attracted me once I was here last year and gave me courage so that we can also make education attractive to our young ones who are living very deep in the remote areas, where most of these schools are a little bit neglected, and we have a lot of learners in this area that need our services as a government."
He also assured the learners that he will bring more sets of school uniforms during the year for those who did not benefit from the current handover.
"I know this school looks dilapidated when you look at the buildings. It's a pity, and the environment is not that conducive, but it is up to us leaders to make sure that we improve the environment that will attract more of the learners to come and school here."
The acting principal of Engombe Junior Primary School is Henock Amupadhi, who expressed gratitude.
“This donation means a lot to us and our learners, and I know it will improve the lives of the learners, and I hope now that the learners feel good, they are feeling okay. They are happy, and I know they have never seen this before. We really appreciate it, and we also would like the honourable to continue doing the same to other schools.”
A member of the school board, Renathe Maurus, said the donation was a relief to parents who are unable to afford school uniforms.
“The uniform given here today is a big blessing, as parents are not able to afford to give their children a full set of school uniforms. If you look around the kids, some have shoes or sandals, and some have torn trousers, but today I can see that when the children return to their houses, the parents will be clapping hands.”
Engombe Junior Primary School has two teachers and 39 learners, caters for grades 1 to 3, and is situated at the Engombe growth point within the Uuvudhiya constituency.
