A Grade One learner has attracted widespread attention on social media after a video showing his exceptional mathematics skills went viral.
The video, recorded by grade 1's Andreas |Naoxab Kindergarten teacher, Letisha David, shows him confidently answering difficult math questions far beyond his grade's level.
The clip has been widely shared, with many viewers praising his ability at such a young age.
"So the numbers you asked him, were they numbers you asked at the kindergarten? "No, it's just from my head. Actually, at the kindergarten level, you're not supposed to ask him because he's small," explained David.
David says she was shocked at how fast Andreas could come up with answers, some of which she admits to having used a calculator to confirm if he was actually right.
Though |Naoxab does not communicate in English yet, he demonstrates mathematical ability that surpasses that of many average adults.
His father, Bans|Naoxab, says his son has always shown a strong interest in numbers, even before starting school.
"The first thing I noticed was that when he was a little younger, he used to play with a lot of bottle caps, and that's where I started questioning why he preferred playing that way. Teaching him to count was another sign because whenever I mentioned a number, he'd mention the next one instead. I figured that he has an interest in numbers."
|Naoxab says his son's ability gives him hope for the future.
Little math guru Andreas has now become a source of pride not only for his family but also for the Otjozondjupa region at large.
The family has appealed to the public not to open additional contribution accounts, as one has already been established aimed at helping the young mathematician stay and excel in school.
