The Dr. Romanus Kampungu Senior Secondary School's kitchen was destroyed by fire on Monday night, leaving 560 hostel learners without a food source.
The school is scrambling to find alternative arrangements.
The fire was noticed by the hostel matrons in the evening, who notified the school principal after seeing smoke coming from the kitchen.
The incident damaged pots and other electronics.
Thomas Zokka is the principal of the affected school, who says, "That affected the pots, causing them to catch fire, and the pots are down now. This morning we had a problem because they did not have breakfast at the required time, and we had to change the menu. We only gave them bread and Oros. At the moment we do not know what time they will have lunch, because we have made arrangements with the Rundu secondary – just temporary arrangements for today – for the learners to be prepared for their lunch."
The cause of the fire is still unknown.
"For now it's difficult for me to come to conclusions because the police are here. The works inspector is also here to establish the course of the fire," he explained.
