The Keetmanshoop Urban Constituency Councillor, Ulrich Davids, has called for stakeholders' active participation in the Constituency Development Committee (CDC) platform, reminding them of its pivotal role in overseeing and guiding development projects' implementation.
He made the call while addressing the first Keetmanshoop Urban CDC meeting in Keetmanshoop.
The regional councillor noted that some stakeholders do not regard CDC meetings as important or delegate the most junior staff to represent them.
Calling on stakeholders to take ownership of the CDC platform, Davids said his office will at least convene four CDC meetings annually.
"As stakeholders we need to see the shortcomings in our community. We need to be worried that shortcomings are not addressed properly or that the wrong issues are prioritised. Who do we think will address our shortcomings if we do not realise the importance of the CDC as a platform to identify and foster implementation of positive change in our communities? So, if we do not see this as an important platform or structure, who do we blame at the end?"
Davids highlighted some development projects implemented in the constituency.
"The constituency office also built toilets for some residents in Ileni. Let's establish where the real challenges are. It's us that need to identify, since we are coming from the community, what the challenges are so that those challenges are addressed. To hold hands and address those issues and ensure our people get services they require."
Moreover, Davids reminded the stakeholders that they have a critical role to play in driving socio-economic development and, in doing so, shaping the future generations to come.
