The High Court swore in three acting judges to the High Court in Windhoek today.
The judges were sworn in by Deputy Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Petrus Damaseb.

The judge is Justice David Mangota from Zimbabwe, who will be acting for a period of three years.
Justice James Robertson Devittie from Zimbabwe will also be acting for a period of three years.

Meanwhile, Justice Gabriel Gadzani Komboni from Botswana will serve for a period of two years and five months.

All acting judges' contracts are effective as of the 1st of March.

The Judicial Service Commission has also appointed Justice Marlene Tommasi, a former judge of the High Court, as acting judge of the High Court for a period of three months from the 1st of April to June 30th.

It also appointed Gladice Pickering as Acting Judge of the High Court for the period of 16 March to 30 June; this appointment marks her first tenure on the High Court Bench.

A statement issued by the Judicial Service Commission on Friday explained that the appointment of the three foreign judges comes after all magistrates who applied to the civil stream of the High Court did not meet the requirements during the recruitment process.

Further adding that due to a shortage of judges, it has affected the scheduling and handling of civil matters, hence their appointment.
