The Embassy of Venezuela in Namibia has celebrated Venezuela’s historic victory in the World Baseball Championships.

AFP reports that Venezuela stunned the United States 3-2 to win the World Baseball Classic on Tuesday for the first time, sparking an outpouring of national pride after a tense final dripping with political symbolism.

The Embassy says in a statement that Venezuela has written a golden page in the history of sports by being crowned world champion for the first time.

Eugenio Suarez drove in the winning run in the top of the ninth inning to seal the historic victory in Miami over a star-studded American line-up hyped as a baseball "dream team".

Jubilant Venezuelans poured into the streets of Caracas to celebrate their heroes following years of economic hardship and weeks after the dramatic US capture of leader Nicolas Maduro in a military raid.  

Baseball is one of the most deeply rooted sport codes in Venezuela, symbolizing national unity and collective pride.

The Venezuelan national baseball team has also qualified for the  2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, after defeating Japan 8–5 in the quarterfinals of the tournament, consolidating its presence among the elite of international baseball.
