The Oshakati Town Council is finalizing preparations for the 6th edition of the Mayoral Cup, set to be hosted at the Oshakati Independence Stadium in the Oshana Region.
Youth and legends teams from various regions and towns across the country are gearing up to compete in the tournament. Unlike the previous edition, which featured four sporting codes, this year's competition will focus exclusively on youth and legends soccer. Organizers noted that this strategic shift is due to financial constraints, despite an increase in prize money compared to last year's event.
The conclusion of the Namibia Premier Football League (NPFL) season and the nearing completion of the third division league are expected to bolster participation, a trend organizers view as a positive development for the tournament's competitiveness.
Event organizer Moses Ndemuweda shared updates on the current state of preparations and team registration."Mayoral Cup preparations are underway. The organizing team is preparing, and team registrations are open. We are also working on logistics for the event. We have received teams from Khomas, Kunene, Kavango Region, and Otjozondjupa that have shown interest in participating. I want to inform those interested to register their teams. The youth category winner will receive N$35,000, with a registration
