Thirty presidential candidates have submitted a nomination fee of N$100,000 to participate in Zambia's general elections scheduled for August 2026.

The Electoral Commission of Zambia's road map to the August 2026 Presidential, National Assembly, and local government elections is progressing well so far.

Despite the electoral body adjusting the fees from about N$95,000 in the previous elections to N$100,000 this time around, the response remains overwhelming.

Thirty candidates have so far registered, some of whom had made attempts in the previous elections.

So far, no female candidate has registered, and they have instead opted to join some alliances as running mates or alliance party members.

The general election is slated for the 11th of August.

Constitutionally, the winner is required to amass a minimum of 50 plus one vote threshold to form the government.

In case no candidate secures the minimum score, a re-run will take place that will make the provisional winner partner with others.

Most of these opposition parties are motivated by the hope of being part of the winning team.

Another motivation is the introduction of a mix of member proportions, where some seats are reserved for nomination to the National Assembly.
