The MTC Nestor Sunshine Tobias Boxing and Fitness Academy held a press conference today at the NIDA building in Windhoek ahead of a Global Super Bantamweight title fight scheduled for 9 May.
The boxing event will be held in Windhoek and will serve as a tribute to Namibia's founding president, Dr. Sam Nujoma.
At the press conference, promoter and trainer Nestor Tobias spoke about the importance of honouring the country's history through sport.
"That's why we say we have to honour our founding father and what he did for us. Now we can compete in world championships and the Olympic Games-that's the legacy we are talking about."
Namibian boxer Fillipus "Energy" Ngitumbwa said he is ready for the fight.
"It's not easy to get a fight like this. I thank my promoter, my sponsors, and my opponent Carrillo. I'm ready."
Colombian boxer Leonardo Carrillo said he is prepared for the bout and referred to his experience in international fights.
"I am a Latin champion, second in the world. I've fought in England, Russia, Argentina, and Panama. Now we are here, and we are well prepared. I have 21 fights."
The undercard will include Mateus Heita against Zolisa Bitayi and Harry Simon Jr against Freeman Mabongwe.
The event will include 16 fights. General tickets cost N$100, and VIP tables cost N$20,000.
The event will feature boxers from Namibia and other countries competing in the ring.
