A 39-year-old man, Alfred Tomas, suspected of murdering his 83-year-old grandmother, Selma Shilongo, at her homestead in Ondiyamande village, Uukwiyuushona Constituency, over the weekend has been remanded in custody.
It is alleged that Tomas, also known as Kabila, smashed a bedroom window to gain entry into the deceased's room, where he attacked her with an unknown object, inflicting multiple wounds.
The deceased was found lying in a pool of blood and had been sleeping in the room with her young grandson at the time of the incident.
Police say the suspect took the deceased’s black Itel mobile phone, valued at N$300, and used it to call her son, who is his uncle residing in Oshakati, and allegedly told him to come to the homestead with the police.
The suspect allegedly claimed his uncle owed him money as a possible motive.
The suspect then fled the scene with the mobile phone and was arrested at a bar in Oluno yesterday. He is facing charges of murder, housebreaking, and theft, and his case has been remanded until October 6. Police investigations continue.
