It was a crucial weekend in the FNB Women Super League as Julinho Athletic FC played two rescheduled matches, collecting maximum points to improve their position on the table.
The matches had been postponed due to several players being away on international duty with Namibia's under-17 side during the AFCON qualifiers.
Julinho Athletic returned to action on Saturday against VPower Angels FC, securing a 1-0 victory in a closely contested match.
Ahead of the game, the VPower coach, Risto Shikomba described the fixture as important, saying a win would boost the team's confidence and league ambitions.
"Very, very crucial. I can't say it is a decider, but to me it is almost a decider because they have more games than us. If we do not beat them, they will be above us. So this is very crucial for us."
The victory gave Julinho momentum heading into Sunday's clash against NUST Babes FC, where they completed the weekend with a 2-1 win.
The Julinho Athletic coach Nikie Gaweseb said the two postponed matches were important in helping the team keep pace with the rest of the league.
"This win will take us from ninth position to maybe seventh or eighth position. So it is very important to get these points."
Despite dominating large parts of the first half in one of the matches, the coach admitted the team struggled to convert chances early but remained patient enough to secure both results.
"You know, like I said, we were dominating the first half. We went forward and created maybe 50 chances, but we could not take the opportunities. In football they say if you do not take your chances, it will come back to haunt you."
With six points collected from two weekend fixtures, Julinho Athletic now heads into the final round full of confidence as the FNB Women Super League season concludes.
