Atushe Rock Lobster Company donated N$20 000 and two boxes of hake fish to the Groot Aub Primary School to improve learners' retention and improve education outcomes.
The Chairperson of Atushe Rock Lobster, Loreal Tjiueza, says the donation means to support a school feeding scheme that links education and proper nutrition.
"We hope to make a small but very meaningful difference in the lives of the learners, and we hope to help create an environment where they can focus on learning and achieving their full potential."
The school principal, Jogbeth Kaita, revealed what the donation means to the school, as most of their learners are from low-income houses.
"We have a population of 1,506 learners, and out of those, 890 are benefiting from the school feeding programme. We've got an already existing school feeding programme at the school. Also, the donation we are going to supplement the already existing school feeding that we have at the school. And then it also helps us to retain the learners and to reduce the dropouts and absenteeism of the learners."
The deputy head girl at the school, Jo-Ann Feris, explained what the donation means to them.
"It really means a lot to our students, especially those ones who want to come and eat at the soup kitchen. We really enjoy seeing others also being happy. This means a lot to our students."
