Beauty pageants have a way of promoting positive impact in the communities, therefore, there is a need to rally behind beauty queens.
The Minister of Gender Equality and Patron of Miss Namibia World Emma Kantema made the remarks during a press conference of Miss World Namibia's national representative and official send-off, Elly Aron.
As a patron of Miss World Namibia, Dr. Kantema stated that beauty pageants provide a platform for young women to showcase their talents and champion issues pertinent to women's empowerment.
“And as a Ministry that's entrusted with the responsibility to promote women, to also promote women by dissipation and women economic empowerment. For us, pageants suggest these are platforms where young women showcase their talent. And not only showcase their talent, but by doing so, they champion issues that are pertinent to women empowerment. That's why the cause of the theme that our beauty queen has taken, that of teenage pregnancy, becomes very critical.”
Aron will represent Namibia at the 73rd Miss World, scheduled o take place in Vietnam from 09 August to 05 September.
Aron advocacy centered around teenage pregnancy.
“I will engage directly with the communities and the learners. This is important, as this important journey will be celebrated with two special events in Sati and in Annam in Vietnam.
Aron will tackle and educate communities about teenage pregnancy through social activities.
Dr Kantema called on Namibians to us support the mission of the beauty queen and send her off with unity, pride and love of the Namibian people.
