Namibian karting continues to make its mark beyond the country's borders, with one young driver achieving a milestone last weekend.

Nande Kaiyamo secured a second-place overall finish in the Mini MAX category at the South African National Karting Championship, becoming the first Namibian to finish on the podium at this level of competition.

Competing against young karting drivers from across Southern Africa, Kaiyamo delivered a performance that underlined his progress on the regional stage.

The weekend began positively as the young Namibian claimed his first pole position in qualifying, marking another milestone in his racing career.

He followed that with consistent performances across the heats, finishing second in Heat One, fifth in Heat Two, and ninth in Heat Three to secure second place overall.

Since last year, the Kaiyamo family has committed to competing both locally in Namibia and regularly in South Africa, gaining exposure to higher levels of competition and furthering their development through national-level racing.

Nande's father, Elmo Kaiyamo, reflected on the significance of the achievement and the sacrifices involved in competing across borders.

The result shows that Namibian karting drivers can compete beyond local borders and challenge regional competitors.

For Nande, however, the work continues as he remains focused on achieving his long-term goals.

As he continues to gain experience, Kaiyamo's result marks another step forward in his karting career and for Namibian motorsport.
