The Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sport, Arts and Culture on Wednesday launched the School Sports for Development Programme at the Independence Stadium in Windhoek to expand access to sport and physical education for learners across the country.

The initiative, implemented under the Integrated Physical Education and School Sports Policy Framework, aims to promote participation, healthy lifestyles, life skills and unity among learners.

Delivering the keynote address, Vice President Lucia Witbooi highlighted the role of school sport in shaping disciplined and healthy young people.

She said sport is a tool for education, social development and nation-building, while encouraging learners to embrace physical activity as part of their daily lives.

The launch brought together government officials, educators, learners, development partners and community members to mark the programme's introduction.

The programme seeks to ensure that learners of all abilities have access to sporting opportunities while promoting teamwork, leadership, confidence and personal growth both on and off the field.

The event also featured performances and demonstrations, highlighting the role of sport and education in supporting the development of Namibia's youth.
