Cabinet has approved a headquarters agreement for the Walvis Bay–Ndola–Lubumbashi (WBNL) Development Corridor Management Committee in Windhoek, the government announced on Tuesday.

Minister of Information and Communication Technology Emma Theofelus said the decision was taken during Cabinet’s 21st meeting on 7 July. The agreement will support regional integration and boost cross-border trade by providing landlocked countries such as Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo access through Namibia to the Port of Walvis Bay.

“In addition, Cabinet authorised Mr Jonas Shilongo, executive director in the Ministry of Works and Transport, to sign the headquarters agreement on behalf of the government of the Republic of Namibia,” Theofelus said.

Cabinet also noted outcomes of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank Spring Meetings held in Washington, D.C., and directed the Ministry of Finance and the Bank of Namibia to report on follow-up technical assistance engagements with the two institutions.
