The Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board (NIPBD), alongside the Namibia Tourism Board (NTB), has stepped up stakeholder engagements in Botswana.
Stakeholder engagement meetings have been planned for Thurday and Friday in Gaborone, where representatives of government, tourism players, trade and business associates are expected to converge.
In an interview with NBC News, the Namibian High Commissioner to Botswana, Elizabeth Kakukuru, said the engagement session on Thursday is aimed at attracting investors to the country.
The session, which will be held under the theme 'Unlocking Investment Opportunities in Namibia', Kakukuru said, seeks to harness investment in many opportunities available in Namibia.
"We have also invited the Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board. We are actually partnering together with them. They will give more information on the visa regime, especially to the investors. We have NAMRA, who will be explaining to the business community in terms of our tax regime. We have also invited the Walvis Bay Corridor, which will be speaking to the logistical part of doing business between Namibia and Botswana. This event is part of our mandate as a mission where we are expected to promote it as an investment and tourism destination of choice. We are contributing to the National Development Plan (NDP6) first pillar on economic growth. All these activities which we are doing are aimed at making a contribution, for example, to increasing our foreign direct investment into the country and also increasing our value of exports."
On Friday, members of the diplomatic corps attached to Botswana will be briefed on Namibia as a tourist destination of choice.
"This event came about, you know, because we have been receiving good feedback from members of the public and the diplomatic community after visiting Namibia; they come and give us feedback, and they enquire about, you know, places to visit in Namibia and flights to Namibia. So, we thought it was very good to invite our Namibia Tourism Board to come and give a broader overview of what to see and where to go in Namibia."
According to the 2025 Bank of Namibia foreign direct investment report, net inflows amounted to N$114.9 billion since 2021, with the majority channelled into oil and gas exploration.
