With the UNAM Rundu Campus Home League set to begin, teams in Rundu are preparing for the competition.

Friendly matches are giving players an opportunity to test their fitness, build team chemistry and identify areas that need improvement before the league begins.

Nicolaus Simbungu, Vice President of SRC at UNAM Rundu Campus, said the friendly matches form part of the teams' preparations.

“These friendly matches are important because students have to be fit to compete in the league. That is why we are hosting these friendly matches, so they can prepare in advance. When the league starts, they will not struggle because they are physically fit.”

For the teams, the friendly matches are also an opportunity to measure their strength against opponents before the competition begins.

All Stars captain Alfred Kambathi, whose side secured a two-nil victory, said his team performed well and is confident ahead of the league.

“For the Home League that is coming up, we are very ready for it, and hopefully, we will take the first prize”

While some teams secured victories, others are using the friendly matches to improve before the league begins.

Commerce FC player Naronge Thomas said despite their two-nil defeat, the team remains determined to improve.

“Even though the game was difficult, we tried here and there. Even though we lost two-nil, hopefully, we are going to improve on that.”

Meanwhile, Pluto FC player Geofry Mukoya believes his side is prepared, although he said the absence of some players affected the squad.

“We are prepared, but the squad needs some players. Some of the senior players we have were not around, but I am sure when the league starts, they will all be here.”

The friendly matches tested the teams' fitness, teamwork and readiness as they prepare for the UNAM Rundu Campus Home League.
