The Minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security, Lucia Iipumbu, has called on married couples across the country to visit their nearest Home Affairs office to verify and validate their marriage records.

Iipumbu stated that the initiative follows concerns over the reliability and completeness of marriage registers held by the ministry, which contain discrepancies due to incomplete marriage records.

She made these remarks during the award ceremony for service medals at the Namibian Correctional Facility in Windhoek.

Some marriage registers, Iipumbu said, may not have been properly completed or submitted on time, resulting in discrepancies in the information on record.

The minister emphasised the need to verify marriage records while both spouses are still alive and in good health and said this can help prevent complications in the event of an unforeseen death.

Married couples are encouraged to visit their nearest Home Affairs office to confirm that their marriage information is accurately recorded.
