Namibia and Angola are expected to strengthen bilateral relations and advance cooperation in several key priority areas.

The two countries' Heads of State will hold an inaugural Angola-Namibia Bi-National Commission (BNC) in Luanda, Angola from the 18th to the 20th of October.

The Bi-National Commission gives effect to a decision of the Fifth Joint Commission of Cooperation to elevate bilateral cooperation to a mechanism co-chaired by Dr. Nandi-Ndaitwah and the President of Angola, João Lourenço.

The inaugural BNC will provide a high-level platform for the two governments to review progress in bilateral cooperation, address outstanding matters of mutual interest and agree on practical measures to advance shared development priorities.

The BNC will culminate in a Heads of State Summit on 19 October, preceded by a Ministerial Session on the 18th and a Senior Officials Meeting taking place on the 15th and 16th of October.

The programme also includes the Angola-Namibia Business Forum, providing a platform to strengthen economic ties and promote trade and investment.

Key areas of cooperation include agriculture, trade and investment; transboundary energy, water, transport and cross-border infrastructure projects; defence and security; and border and immigration management.

President Nandi-Ndaitwah is also expected to address the National Assembly of Angola and visit the Dr. António Agostinho Neto Memorial Park.

The establishment of the BNC agreement was signed in 2019, reflecting the two countries' commitment to deepen longstanding ties of friendship, solidarity and cooperation and implement projects that increase trade and strengthen people-to-people relations.
