A family of 11 was left homeless after a fire destroyed their home in Bukalo on Monday.

The homeowner, Bernard Simana explained that the family was sitting under a tree in the afternoon at the time of the incident when a whirlwind passed through the area.

He said they noticed the fire shortly afterwards.

The family tried to put out the flames, but the fire spread quickly.

The family relies on farming, fishing as well as casual work.

Household items, solar panels, and national documents have all been destroyed.
