As Cancer Awareness Month is observed in October, the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation is turning personal experiences into a call for greater awareness, compassion and early screening through its Pink Day initiative.
NBC employees will mark Pink Day in commemoration of Cancer Month.
Head of Department News and Current Affairs Peter Denk stated that the NBC’s contribution is to inform and educating citizens about Cancer.
NBC HR Operations Manager Belinda Kaangundue also gave an insight of the initiative.
“I strongly believe that workplaces should organise workplace screenings and initiatives, because it serves as a platform to educate the employees on warning signs, prevention and also the need to seek medical assistance earlier. And as an organisation, it also, it demonstrates that you value your employees beyond their professional contributions.”
Pink Day’s message extend beyond the workplace as Cancer awareness requires continued conversations, compassion and action.
NBC Chief Human Resources and Administration Officer Gerson Kamatuka explained.
"What prompted us is the importance of creating awareness because if we don't do it then employees will know that there is something like that they hear from outside, but for us if we drive it from inside, then they see the urgency and the importance of it.”
Kamatuka stressed that the national broadcaster hopes to inspire other institutions to promote cancer awareness, encourage annual employee screenings and help workers understand how the disease can affect both their personal lives and their work.
