The revival of the Khorixas Trade Fair is a key step toward showcasing local enterprise and attracting long-term business partnerships.
This was highlighted by the Kunene Governor Vipuakuje Muharukua at the official opening of the five-day event.
Governor Muharukua highlights development and tourism as vital for Khorixas' growth, connecting visitors to local heritage sites like Twyfelfontein and the Petrified Forest.
His address was read by the Deputy Director of Programme and Quality Assurance in the Kunene Education Directorate, Petrus Shipalanga.
"This trade fair grew from a local economic strategy adopted by the Khorixas Town Council in 2025. I congratulate the Council for taking that strategy forward through an initiative that brings businesses, services and opportunities closer to the community. Today, the town builds on that earlier investment-promotion effort by launching its first trade fair of this kind. This is an important step in establishing a platform through which Khorixas can showcase its enterprise and attract lasting partnerships."
Governor Muharukua commended the local council for upgrading sewer and water networks, renovating the town's sports stadium, and allocating land for the new Khorixas Vocational Training Centre.
"Residents should experience development through reliable services, decent living conditions, access to skills and opportunities to earn an income. Our responsibility is to ensure that investment in infrastructure leads to lasting improvements in everyday life. The next stage of Khorixas's growth must connect skills with enterprise."
Khorixas Mayor Lesley Awaseb said the trade fair was designed to stimulate the local economy.
"This trade fair is designed to stimulate our local economy, connect major corporations directly with our citizens, and bring vital services and exciting attractions to our communities. When we finally remember the Khorixas Investment Expo of 2015, today we open a brand new chapter with the first official trade fair in our history. We are proudly putting Khorixas on the map, Namibia's premier tourism destination."
The trade fair, which concludes on 31 October, has attracted 51 participating exhibitors and stalls in total.
