The Mine Workers Union's B2Gold branch was denied the right to participate in the elections of the just-ended Otjozondjupa Regional Biannual Conference, which took place at Tsumeb.

The leadership of the Executive Branch says the chairperson presiding over the meeting informed them that they would not be able to vote due to concerns raised by the employer at the branch level.

The B2Gold Branch executive leadership strongly feels that their exclusion from voting was a violation of their right to represent their members' interests at a regional level.

The B2Gold MUN Chairperson, Jason Uiseb, in the company of other executive members, fingered the company's Human Resource Supervisor for an email that set off their exclusion.

He maintains that branch elections that took place two days before the Regional Conference were conducted above-board, with no complaints registered.

With more than 70% of paid-up members participating in the branch elections, Uiseb says, the outcome of the branch results reflects the aspirations and wishes of workers.
