The President of the Namibia National Liberation Veterans Association (NNLVA), Ben Shikongo, has denied that there is a bitter battle between his association and the Former Plan Combatants Association (FPCA).

Shikongo refuted allegations made in a local newspaper by some members of his association that there was bad blood between the two organisations.

He alleged that the newspaper did not correctly reflect his opinion, and this is the reason he called a media conference as president of the NNLVA to defuse the misunderstanding.

Shikongo stated that there is no infighting between the two associations, saying such allegations are mere fabrications. "There is no way we fight, there is no way I can contradict myself. I was part of the constituent conference where members were duly elected, so we have to support them. The two associations complement each other. The one I am heading as a president is governmental, while the other one headed by the Admiral is political. Therefore, we are united. We are one. I don't know why this media house has to make this unfounded allegation."

Shikongo refuted claims that he boycotted the first-ever Former Plan Combatant's reunion at Ongwediva, saying he tendered his apology for not being able to attend the meeting.

What he wants to see is the two associations work together and complement one another for the common goal of unifying the veterans of the liberation struggle.

Shikongo says internal matters that might arise can be resolved amicably by the association's leaders.
