The Windhoek Magistrate's Court has granted bail of N$30 thousand to all suspects who allegedly fraudulently benefited from a false subsistence and travel claim scheme at the National Assembly.

The accused, who include prominent boxer and former accountant Jason Naule, legal services former director Petrus Husselman, former accountant Paulus Nathinge, and James Ukarerani, allegedly created fraudulent S&T claims worth N$1,2 million since August 2018.

Magistrate Joleen Classen did not grant the N$50 thousand bail sought by the state prosecutor, Sylvia Kauluma, nor the plea by the suspects to reduce the bail to N$5000.

Naule, Husselman, and Ukarerani informed Classen they could only afford N$ 20 thousand in bail, while Nathinge said he supports all five of his children and can only afford N$5000.

They also claim that all money gained fraudulently from the S&T has since been deducted and paid from their pension payout.

According to Kauluma, each of the suspects received roughly N$250 thousand in false claims, thus saying a strong case exists against Naule, Husselman, Ukarerani, and Nathinge.

They will remain in custody after their arrest on Thursday until they pay the bail before their next appearance on the 26th of this month.
