Two white rhinos have been shot and their horns removed at farm Otjisauona, in the Windhoek district.

The Namibian police report that the incident took place between Friday and Monday.

The rhinos are valued at N$660 000.

In another incident at a private farm near Windhoek, a case of hunting of protected game was opened after the carcass of a white rhino was discovered.

The poaching of this rhino is believed to have taken place between the 16th and 20th of October. This incident was confirmed by the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism spokesperson, Romeo Muyunda.

Investigations were carried out at the scene of the crime, and police retrieved bullet fragments from the animal.

No arrests were made at this stage.
