President Hage Geingob has extended condolences to President Yoon Suk-yeol and the people of South Korea.

This follows the deaths of more than 150 people and dozens of others injured in a stampede during Halloween celebrations in Seoul's Itaewon district on Sunday.

South Korean authorities have embarked on a full investigation after families and friends were desperately seeking missing loved ones at community centres that were turned into facilities for missing people.

International media reports also indicated that shocked parents collected the remains of the overwhelmingly young victims from the city's mortuaries.

President Geingob, in a statement, said Namibia joins the people of South Korea in mourning the lives lost in the tragic incident and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.
