A trainee psychology counsellor, Cinde-Lee Koopman, has encouraged the public to adopt a healthy lifestyle regime to cope with and manage year-end fatigue.

The end-of-year burnout that manifests as fatigue is a direct result of being overworked and stressed all year.

Symptoms are physical and emotional exhaustion, accompanied by feelings of helplessness and unmotivation.

Trainee psychology counsellor Cinde-Lee Koopman offered tips to cope with this stress, advising activities such as exercising, taking a break from draining activities like social media use, and getting enough sleep.

Koopman says that being tired at the end of the year is a completely normal response of the body and there is nothing unusual about it.

"Coming to this part of the year, we are all feeling tired, over-stressed, physically worn out and this is because of the year that we had, everything that has built up to now and people feel tired. It can be internal or external.

She added that other warning signs to look out for are irritation, lack of interest, and boredom.

She had the following advice for those suffering from burnout and fatigue: "We need to acknowledge how far we have come this year through everything that we have done. Do not sell yourself short on what you have achieved. We need to identify the various dimensions of our lives. Is it our occupation, is it physically that we are tired, is it socially, environmentally, or where is it that we are feeling tired at this moment, and as soon as we identify it, we will know how to manage it."
