The Onelago Combined School in Anamulenge Circuit hosted Arbor Day after winning this year's Tree Planting School Competition in the Omusati Region.

The Northern Namibia Forestry Committee, under the Directorate of Forestry, organized the competition with the objective of promoting environmental education in schools through tree planting and combating deforestation.

The Arbor Day in the Omusati Region was sponsored by the Climate Change and Inclusive Use Project and EduVentures Trust for N$42,000.

Ten schools took part in the competition, with Onelago Combined School emerging as the winner while Tsandi Junior Secondary School came in second place.

One hundred fruit trees were donated, along with other gardening materials, which were distributed among schools and communities in the surrounding areas.

The Northern Namibia Forestry Committee was established in 1992 through the coordination of the Directorate of Forestry and promotes tree planting, land and water pollution control, and biodiversity conservation by taking direct action and imparting knowledge to various stakeholders.
