The Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Dr. Peya Mushelenga, says it is vital that those tasked with disseminating information do so in a timely fashion.

Dr. Mushelenga addressed a consultative meeting on how government information should be communicated to the public, as per the Communication Strategy 2022–2027.

According to Dr. Mushelenga, information for the public is frequently not shared, creating a vacuum in which people can share incorrect information.

When disseminating information, Mushelenga emphasized the importance of clarity and comprehensiveness, as well as timely communication.

"I used to talk to all members of the media. They will call ministers when they know ministers are in the cabinet, and obviously, they have no time to respond, and by the time they go back to the media, they say they have closed for release of their news, so what I do is arrange for ministers to be able to communicate during the time of the 8 o'clock bulletins because even if you contact nbc by 6 or 6: 30 they will be able to accommodate you."

The Ministry's Executive Director, Dr. Audrin Mathe, stressed the importance of media relations in building brand awareness and increasing creditability.

"Ensure that we have a very good relationship with the media so that whenever it is that we need to communicate, the media is able to buy into our agenda. They may not always agree with us, and we may not always agree with them, but all we are agreeing on is that communication is important for both of us. They have people who read their papers; we have people who need to know what the government is doing."

Also speaking at the occasion was Otjozondjupa Governor James Uerikua. "Fellow leaders of our region, the offices we hold are held on behalf of the citizens who have given us the mandate to hold those offices; don't do anything in private and expect people to trust you."

The goal of the communication strategy is to deliver world-class public service communication that supports the government's priorities to enable efficient and effective service delivery.
