Swapo Party congresses have always drawn attention. nbc News spoke to some journalists who covered previous Swapo Party congresses and shared their moments.

Editor of the Namibian Sun, Toivo Ndjebela said the most vivid memory he has is from 2012 when the party held its congress in Windhoek, where the late Kazenambo Kazenambo cried when people were singing their party anthem, national anthem. 

Freelance Journalist, Tileni Monghudi said 2007 was one of the best. He said there was a sense of pride in being at a Swapo Congress, especially for the delegates. The atmosphere was just remarkable. It was the camaraderie, the togetherness, the way they sang liberation songs, not the ones played by the band but the ones that the delegates and the attendees of the congress sang. 

Freelance Journalist, Brigitte Weidlich said everybody was happy, everybody was looking forward to a joint future, the party was full of plans and then reality also kicks in. It's like after a wedding, you have the nice feast, you have the honeymoon and then the daily life kicks in, and then as a politician, you realise what is possible and feasible and what is not.
