Health and Social Services Minister Dr. Kalumbi Shangula officially opened the healthcare center at Oshikango in the Ohangwena region.
With the opening of the prefabricated building structure, funded by the US President's Emergency Plan for Aids Relief (PEPFAR) and the Global Fund, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has worked with the Ministry of Health to turn the site and six others into a healthcare services facility, which is now closer to the people.
Previously, patients at the Oshikango border crossing received their treatment at tables and chairs under a tree, but this is now a thing of the past.
The Ohangwena Region is striving to reach the UNAIDS milestones of 95/95/95 by 2023 and subsequently contribute to the global goal of ending AIDS by 2023.
The region has been leading the country with excellent delivery of HIV services, with more than 26, 000 clients active in an anti-retroviral treatment program.
