The UN Children's Fund (UNICEF), is lobbying President Hage Geingob to advocate for investments in the education sector in Namibia and for Africa to adopt 2023 as the Year for Education.

UNICEF Representative, Rachel Odede and the delegation paid a courtesy call at the State House.

During the Transforming Education Summit of the UN Secretary-General in September, countries renewed their commitment to reset how countries approach and prioritize education.

The summit was further set against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic which disrupted the global education system.

Therefore, UNICEF says the call to invest more domestic resources in education in line with regional and global benchmarks, is crucial.

Odede also briefed President Geingob on key recommendations of the Transforming Education Summit.
