Road's Authority Transportation Executive Officer, Sidney Boois, has called on motorists to exercise a high level of compliance with road safety and traffic rules.

Speaking to nbc News at the Keetmanshoop Police Roadblock, Boois rated the road safety compliance in the region during the festive season to date at above 90%.

"We have observed in the Khartoum Region, particularly during our nearly 90% compliance, which is good but not sufficient because that 10% non-compliance can have serious consequences such as the one we have observed on roadworthiness, especially tires, that it appears still that road users are not prepared, they are not, they did not arrange themselves, and I would say they try out roadblocks, let me go and check whether I am OK, maybe they will allow, maybe they'll send."
