Religious, political, traditional, and community leaders attended the annual elder's Christmas party at the Namundjebo residence at Olunghono in the Ohangwena Region.
Over one thousand elderly were treated to lunch and received gift hampers, a tradition that has been cemented by the Namundjebo clan for decades and was initiated by the late business mogul Eliakim Namundjebo.
Businesswoman Martha Tilahun-Namundjebo says senior citizens are the pillars of society who harbor knowledge and provide the necessary support to their families with little income and therefore are worthy to be celebrated.
"I am promising you today that this event will continue to be hosted for years to come with God's grace. This is our way of thanking you, our elderly members of society, for the sacrifices you make with limited resources to help your grandchildren and society at large. May your festive season be a time to remember, and let's continue sharing the little that we have."
Various traditional leaders from different traditional authorities who got an opportunity to engage the attendees lauded the Namundjebo family for their initiative, adding that it was worth emulating.
One of the beneficiaries from Okalongo says she has been attending the Christmas luncheon for years as it's also a time for them to reflect on the life they have lived and catch up with their friends.
"Firstly, I want to thank God for this day and thank the sponsor of this event because of their generous hearts, we get to enjoy Christmas with other elderly people from different regions. We are grateful for our gifts as well."
