The newly appointed Army Commander, Major General Aktofel Nambahu, has vowed to march the army towards being a reputable and technologically advanced force.
Major General Nambahu was promoted and sworn in as Army commander, taking over the reins from Major General Matheus Alueendo.
Nambahu accepted the new responsibility with all due consideration for upholding the principles established by his predecessors.
He implored the collective leadership under his command to utilize all possible means to ensure discipline among the troops in order to accomplish the mission and vision of the Namibian Army.
He further pledges to focus on training and improving the welfare of the soldiers, which are essential to developing a competent and formidable force.
"I will further work towards the continued argumentation of the Namibian Army's fighting capability through the prioritization of research and development. This will enable the Namibian Army to fit into the fast-growing world of technology, from which the military is not exempt."
Major General Nambahu served in various military capacities, including as General Officer Commanding of the One and Two Motorized Infantry Brigades.
The outgoing Army commander expressed his gratitude, saying he is retiring from military service with honor for serving a noble call after 43 years of his military career.
Major General Alueendo, now retired, joined the People's Liberation Army of Namibia in 1978 and served as a PLAN combatant for 11 years.
He is also one of the pioneers of the Namibian Defense Force, having championed its establishment dating back to June 1990.
"It was a journey of noble commitment to serve the Namibian Defence Force and, in particular, the Namibian Army since their establishment in 1990, and for having commanded the Namibian Army for three years from August 2019 to December 2022.I am both honored and humbled as I considered the immense responsibilities inherent in providing effective command and control to the ranks and files of the Namibian Army."
The Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs Frans Kapofi, the Governor of Otjozondjupa Region James Uerikua, Chief of Defense Force Martin Pinehas, Defense attachés, NDF Generals, and Senior Officers were among the dignitaries who attended the Army Change of Command Parade.
