TVET graduates and gardeners from across the country received equipment from MTC under its project "We Race Together."
The project, launched last year, managed to raise N$1.4 million for charity.
The majority of sponsors who took part in the race channeled the funds to assist TVET graduates who do not have the equipment to start their own businesses, as well as new and established community gardeners who want to help their communities and are in the process of transferring skills.
"The level of education was just one of the criteria that showed the level of education these candidates had, which was high. On the community gardens, the committee was pleased to review community gardens in rural areas that have brought food security to their local communities. With the assistance of these grants, we hope these benefits increase food security from one village to the constituency level and beyond," said Jeanne Husselmann, committee member for the We Race Together project.
From the 478 applications received, only 82 were selected to receive the equipment grant with the equipment requested being under N$70,000.
"From MTC, we are just grateful enough to the corporates listed for the efforts and for being part of initiatives like this. Government alone cannot do this."
With the high unemployment rate among the youth, the beneficiaries welcomed the grant.
The equipment received includes welding and tiling machines, office admin and gardening equipment among others
