The Namibian Police did not show up on Friday for the NIMT Northern Campus employees' demonstration in Tsumeb.

However, this did not stop the employees from marching to NIMT to hand over their petition in relation to their unpaid December salaries.

The NIMT Northern Campus employees who had planned to demonstrate from the UN Park had to change plans after their police escort failed to show up due to miscommunication.

They, however, continued to walk to NIMT and handed over their petition to management.

NIMT Northern Campus employee, Duncan Hill said the affected NIMT employees are unable to honor financial obligations due to non-payment which includes debit orders, bank charges, and various interest accruing to outstanding accounts and financial obligations relating to their children's school fees.

NIMT management did not come out to receive the distressed workers' petition as intended but NAPWU's Branch Organiser, Julia Kambungu received the petition to hand over to the campus' management.

About 172 NIMT employees nationwide took part in the demonstration, across all four campuses countrywide.
