Two weeks after the start of the 2023 academic year, hostel learners at Caprivi Secondary School still find themselves in a hazardous environment having to bear the stench of sewage on the school premises.

The dining hall where learners are taking their meals is surrounded by sewer water.

Hostel learners could not have their dinner on Tuesday due to the smell that is at the dining hall entrance.

All learners refused to attend classes today because of the situation that is affecting them all.

The school principal, Circuit Inspector and officials are currently engaging the Ministry of Works and Transport and the Katima Town Council on the way forward.

The hostel was closed last year due to renovations.

Learners fear that they might get water-borne diseases any time soon if nothing is done.
